Jeremiah Wright Interview

So when I saw the clips of the coming interview I have to admit I was rather scared.  I though Jeremiah Wright had thrown wood on the fire.  As many of you know were in plans to bring him to Princeton Seminary, and I was actively wondering if that was such a good idea.  After watching the interview I can't wait for him to come.  Several Theologian friends and I watched it, and I think we were all terribly impressed.  Bill Moyers gave one of the best interviews in recent memory - perhaps comparable to his interview with James Cone.

I don't see how anybody could dismiss Wright as an abject racists after watching this interview.  I realize that many many people will not see it.  However, the media elite will...and perhaps (as Moyers changed Iraq coverage) Moyers will change Wright Coverage.

Here is a Link to the Video from the interview:

Great Interview and it offers a cautionary tale of being skeptical about the media. This same media that has covered up the Bush Administration's many lies.

Re: Jeremiah Wright Interview (2.00 / 0)

Portraying Wright as an abject racist is already happening as we speak on this board in a different thread.

Someone who claims to be a Christian themselves and hinted that for this interview Wright was sedated and that David Axelrod was pulling his strings.

I just don't get it.  I can't believe that this person really watched the interview.

Re: Jeremiah Wright Interview (2.00 / 0)

Great Interview, Wright came out very affable, informative and unfortunately, we have so called Christians condemning the man because he spoke from the Word.

The Bible is full of prophets condemning Israel for their sins.

Re: Jeremiah Wright Interview (2.00 / 1)

I thought it was a wonderful interview.  Wright came across very well.

I'm a white 6th-generation Iowan, a lapsed Catholic, and I'd attend a Wright sermon any place, any time.  I think it would be pleasure to hear him preach.

I'll be honest and say I am an agnostic (2.00 / 0)

due to the bland, moralistic (focus on Gays and other issues like that) religion that I grew up around, but give me a Father Pfleger (I caught his interview on Fox on line or Rev. Wright any day of the week and I'd attend in an instant.

Great interview.  I respect Obama very much for not discarding the man when most political observers were recommending he had to.

Lost rate and rec for issuing a '1' to a trollish comment. The troll, not so much.

Re: Jeremiah Wright Interview (none / 0)

Watch the full sermon on youtube, his comments were taken out of context and he makes so many of the same arguments that progressives across the country believe in.  Yes he has a couple views that are out of the mainstream, but he is no racist, and he is more patriotic than the chickenhawks that piss on the constitution while sticking little flags on their collars.

Re: Jeremiah Wright Interview (none / 0)

the interview was excellent.  it will be interesting to see what the media does with it.  if they actually watched the whole thing, i have to think they would at least think twice the next time they caricatured him as a racist loon - at least those who have a conscience.  on the other hand, i suspect that most of these guys just have interns comb through tapes to find the segment that best approximates a drudge headline and then ignore the rest.

oh well.  at least the all those previously freaked out old people who watch pbs on friday nights will sleep easier tonight.

Re: Jeremiah Wright Interview (none / 0)

I actually emailed a bunch of folks in the media as the covered the Wright Story offering crash-courses through you-tube clips on Black Theology.  Several folks emailed my back with thanks and saying it was revealing in a positive way.  I feel like when Moyers talks the media listens.  He really started a lot of the critical coverage on Iraq for instance.

Re: Jeremiah Wright Interview (none / 0)

I hope you're right.  And I think you probably are about Moyers and the respect he's given in those crowds.  On the other hand, these media narratives can be pretty hard to reverse once they've taken hold.  Look how long it took with Iraq.

Re: Jeremiah Wright Interview (none / 0)

not meant as a slam at all but after watching the interview I wish Obama would have stuck to him harder and taken the entire country to school on Rev.  Wright.

Best interview I've seen in forever.  Can we have fifty more TV journalists like Bill Moyers, Santa?
